Lake Norman State Park

The Lake Norman State Park is located in Huntersville, North Carolina, about 30 minutes from the South Salisbury area. The park was established in 1962 and has more than 1,000 acres of land and over 3,000 feet of shoreline on Lake Norman. The park has over 30 miles of hiking trails and 13 miles of biking trails.

The park also features an equestrian center where visitors can experience horseback riding along the many trails throughout the park. One of the greatest features of this park is its historic nature. Visitors can explore two historic sites: Old Salem Church and Hanging Rock Battlefield & Historic Sites.

Hanging Rock State Park

Hanging Rock State Park is a must-see if you’re visiting South Salisbury. It’s only about 45 minutes from Salisbury and offers a wide variety of outdoor activities, including hiking, swimming, camping, and canoeing.

The park features more than 2 miles of trails that wind through meadows and forests. Visitors can hike to the top of Hanging Rock Mountain or climb one of the many rock outcroppings along the trail. The park also has a variety of campsites available for rent year-round. A swimming beach on Lake Lure is open from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend.

Morrow Mountain State Park

Morrow Mountain State Park is a beautiful and underrated state park that is only 30 minutes from South Salisbury. Morrow Mountain is one of the largest parks in North Carolina, covering more than 70,000 acres. The park’s most popular attraction is Lake Tillery, a man-made lake created by damming the Yadkin River. The lake offers fishing, boating, swimming, and wakeboarding.

There are also many hiking trails for exploring Morrow Mountain State Park’s lush forests and rocky gorges. Morrow Mountain State Park has a variety of campgrounds available for overnight stays, including primitive sites with no electricity or water hookups, tent sites with electricity and water hookups, and RV sites with full hookups and cabins that can be rented year-round.
