The New Ford Explorer
When you want the perfect family-friendly, capable, and stylish three-row mid-size SUV, consider the Ford Explorer. Whether you're towing a boat to the lake, taking the family on a road trip, or carrying the kids and their sports equipment to their after-school game, the Explorer provides plenty of room and performance.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
Find the perfect Explorer to fit your budget and lifestyle from the six trims: the base, XLT, Limited, Limited Hybrid, the sporty ST, and the luxurious Premium. From the honeycombed front grille and cat-eye shaped LED lights to the rear spoiler on the back of the Explorer, this SUV has an athletic look that's sure to turn heads. Roof rails add a muscular appearance to the Explorer, and a black mesh insert and quad chrome exhaust tips make the ST look like a race-car.
Engine (Power)
Depending on how you plan on using your Explorer, you have three engine choices. The Limited Hybrid comes with a 3.3-liter V-6 engine producing 318 horsepower and 322 pound-feet of torque that pairs with an electric motor. The Platinum and Limited get a powerful 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 engine pumping out 400 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque. You'll find a 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers 300 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque on the Limited, XLT, and base trims. A 10-speed automatic transmission, found on all trims, provides a seamless shifting experience.
Performance
Rear-wheel drive comes standard and provides plenty of traction and grip for most terrains. If you want to tackle off-road trails or tow a boat or trailer, choose the intelligent four-wheel drive with the terrain management system featuring seven driving modes. The Explorer corners well on twisting roads and maneuvers easily in city traffic due to its fine-tuned suspension system, anti-roll and stability controls, and the trailer sway control helps to stabilize your trailer when towing. When properly equipped, your Explorer can haul up to 5,600 pounds.
Interior
You'll find plenty of modern technology in the Explorer. Ford's SYNC 4 infotainment system features a color 8-inch touch screen or on the upper trims, a 12-inch version. Enjoy listening to your favorite playlists with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration which you can Bluetooth to the 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system.
Luxury abounds in the cabin of the Explorer. The upper trims come with nice touches such as heated and ventilated leather seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, tri-zone automatic climate control, and an in-cabin air filtration system. Three rows of seats fit up to seven people, and with the flexible seating configurations and cargo management system, you have up to 87.8 cubic feet of storage space.
