The New Ford Mustang 2
The Ford Mustang has been a famous name for decades, and the latest model carries on that legacy with its signature power and style. If you're looking for something to amp up your driving experience, there's nothing quite like getting behind the wheel of pure American muscle. Learn about the new Ford Mustang and everything it has to offer.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
Several versions of the Mustang are available, and each has unique exterior features to consider. The standard model is the EcoBoost, and it comes with 17-inch aluminum wheels, LED exterior lights, and rain-sensing wipers. If you upgrade to the EcoBoost Premium, you'll get heated outboard mirrors.
At the GT Fastback level, the upgrades primarily focus on the engine without any convertible options, and the same is true for the GT Premium. The Mach 1, on the other hand, sports 19-inch aluminum wheels and a unique intake manifold with Brembo six-piston front-brake calipers. Finally, the Shelby GT500 is a powerhouse with exterior features such as unique styling that pays homage to the original Shelby GT500 from 1967.
Engine (Power)
The Mustang has four engine options, but even the base-level engine offers more power than most other cars on the road. To begin with, the Mustang comes with a 2.3-liter turbocharged inline-four engine that boasts 310 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque. If that's not enough, you can upgrade to the GT's 5-liter V-8 with 450 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque. The Mach 1's engine is of similar design to the GT's, though it manages to put out 470 horsepower. Finally, the GT500's 5.2-liter supercharged V-8 offers immense strength with 760 horsepower and 625 pound-feet of torque.
Performance
With so much power under the hood, it should be no surprise that even the base-model Mustang can go from 0 to 60 mph in just five seconds and can reach a top speed of 121 mph. The highest-level Mustang performs even better, going from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds with a massive top speed of 180 mph. The Mach 1 is plenty fast too, with a top speed of 168 mph.
Interior
Muscle cars tend to focus on the engine and neglect the interior, but the Mustang offers the best of both worlds. The SYNC infotainment system comes standard along with voice control and Wi-Fi hotspot capability. You can upgrade your interior tech further to include an 8-inch touchscreen, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and a 12-inch digital instrument cluster. The trunk space is surprisingly generous, too, with 13.5 cubic feet of space — or 11.4 cubic feet if you opt for the convertible.
Safety Features
It's important to keep power under control, so Ford has implemented a variety of safety systems and designs into the Mustang. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration awarded the Mustang a full five stars for its overall safety rating, but that's just the start. It also can be equipped with a host of driver-assistance systems, such as forward collision warning with automated emergency braking and lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist.
