Ford F-150 vs Toyota Tundra
Kannapolis, Lexington, and Mooresville drivers know the Ford F-150’s reputation for toughness. Can it be dethroned from the pinnacle of the pickup truck segment by the competition from Toyota? This truck comparison will help you see how the 2020 Ford F-150 and 2020 Toyota Tundra measure up.
We’ll cover the specs and features you care about most, from towing to cabin comfort. If you have some questions as you read, reach out to Cloninger Ford, our dealer serving Salisbury and beyond!
F-150 vs Tundra: Towing Prowess
As you shop trucks, you’ll consider capability for work and play. The 2020 F-150 and Tundra excel across the board, with powerful engines and muscular towing abilities.
In fact, the Toyota Tundra tows up to 10,200 pounds when properly equipped. Hitch up the family boat or even a camper trailer and see where your adventures take you. The Ford F-150 is even more capable: It tows up to 13,200 pounds and can take on the rolling hills of the Piedmont region with ease!
Both trucks offer technologies to make towing safer and simpler for you. However, the Ford truck really goes above and beyond in this regard. Its class-exclusive Pro Trailer Backup Assist™ will help you reverse with a trailer in tow—just turn a knob in the direction (left or right) you want the trailer to go.
Inside the Cab: Interior Comfort
When you drive a truck over long distances, you want a ride that can keep you comfortable from start to finish. The Ford F-150 and Toyota Tundra offer several creature comforts. Heated and cooled front seats are available and will keep you cozy no matter the weather outside.
Available power front seats let you adjust easily and find the perfect position, even as you drive. The F-150 goes a step further, though, with available multi-contour seats in the front. Enjoy an isolated back massage that reduces fatigue—a deluxe experience the Tundra doesn’t offer.
Both vehicles use premium materials, from available leather to real wood accents. However, the Ford F-150 sports a more modern design. The Tundra hasn’t been wholly redesigned since 2007, while the Ford has only been in its current generation since 2015.
Performance: Pick Your Powertrain
You can expect a robust performance from the 2020 F-150 and Tundra. Under the hood of every Tundra is a 5.7L V8 that cranks out 381 horsepower. It’s a solid total that will power you through all sorts of driving situations. Where variety is concerned, though, the Ford F-150 comes out ahead.
You can pick from six available powertrains, including three EcoBoost® engines, a Power Stroke® Turbo Diesel engine, and Ti-VCT V6 and V8 engines. From the High-Output 3.5L EcoBoost® V6, you’ll see up to 450 horsepower—far exceeding the Tundra’s total output.
The Tundra runs on a 6-speed automatic transmission. It doesn’t quite live up to the 10-speed automatic on the Ford truck, which uses more gears to optimize performance and efficiency at every speed.
Is the Ford F-150 or Toyota Tundra a Better Buy?
Lexington and Mooresville shoppers have a major choice to make. The 2020 Ford F-150 and 2020 Toyota Tundra are powerful vehicles that make capability the centerpiece of their appeal.
However, the F-150 still dominates the pickup truck segment. With its top-tier towing capacity and first-rate cabin, it enhances every aspect of your Kannapolis or Salisbury drive. Want a closer look? Simply set up a test drive at Cloninger Ford and get behind the wheel yourself!
