F-150 vs Tacoma: Performance Specs

2020 Ford F-150The most importance difference between these two trucks is the respective segment each occupies. The 2020 F-150 is a full-size truck while the 2020 Tacoma is a midsize truck. This means the Ford truck offers more potent capabilities and can tow and haul heavier loads.

For instance, the Ford F-150 can tow up to 13,200 pounds when equipped with a 3.5L EcoBoost® engine. The Toyota Tacoma is quite potent, but it can only tow 6,800 pounds—roughly half the capability of the F-150. You can move larger boats and trailers with the Ford truck.

The most powerful engine available in the Tacoma is a 3.5L V6, which serves up 278 horsepower. At the same time, you can get up to 450 horsepower from the High-Output EcoBoost® V6 in the Ford F-150.

Safety Features for Driving & Towing

2020 Ford F-150The Ford F-150 and Toyota Tacoma share a commitment to your safety. You’ll drive with awareness on the roads of Lexington and Kannapolis with standard driver-assistance suites.

The Ford Co-Pilot360™ suite and its Toyota equivalent offer a range of features. They use cameras and sensors to alert you to adverse situations on the roads and help minimize risk of accidents. Enjoy:

  • Auto High-Beam Headlamps
  • Lane-Keeping System
  • Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking

You’ll find some Ford-exclusive safety features, however, that the Toyota Tacoma doesn’t offer. A BLIS® (Blind Spot Information System) with Trailer Coverage can sense vehicles in your blind spots and along the sides of your trailer, for instance. The Tacoma has a similar system, but without Trailer Coverage.

Off-Road Technology & Capabilities

2020 Ford F-150More than capable of conquering the trails, the 2020 F-150 and Tacoma offer trim levels specialized for tough terrain. The Tacoma TRD Off-Road and the F-150 Raptor are designed for off-road adventure.

To keep you tractive on the most uneven terrain, you’ll have features such as the electronic-locking rear differential. Hill Start Assist on the Tacoma and Hill Descent Control on the F-150 will help you keep your balance on inclines or declines. 4-wheel drive, meanwhile, provides grip where you need it most.

Keep in mind, though, that only the Ford F-150 offers the available 360-Degree Camera with Split-View Display. It can help when you need to maneuver in tight places on the trails.
