Are you in the process of deciding between the Ford F-150 and the Chevy Silverado 1500? Well, in that case, our team here at Cloninger Ford hopes this comparison can help you. Check it out and then contact us if you have any questions.

Ford F-150 vs Chevy Silverado 1500: Payload

One of the first things many drivers note about the 2020 F-150 is that it offers them a capable payload capacity. On the right model, with the right options and packages, this payload number can go as high as 3,270 pounds. On the other hand, the 2020 Silverado 1500’s maximum payload isn’t nearly as impressive. It tops out at under 2,500 pounds of maximum payload, which means you could have a hard time loading up for work.

Ford F-150 vs Chevy Silverado 1500: Technology

Ford F-150 vs Chevy Silverado Salisbury NC However, taking advantage of your full payload capabilities isn’t the only part of getting stuff done on the jobsite. You’ll also need to tow, which means you’ll need state-of-the-art tech to support you:

  • Pro Trailer Backup Assist™
  • Dynamic hitch assist with line-of-sight guide
  • 8-inch productivity screen
  • Factory-installed trailer brake controller
  • BLIS® (Blind Spot Information System) with Trailer Coverage

These are all towing features that the Ford F-150 offers. Fortunately, the Chevy Silverado 1500 comes with a lot of similar ones, including Hitch Guidance. Unfortunately, although the Silverado also has available Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert, this feature doesn’t include trailer coverage like the Ford’s BLIS® does.

Before we dive back into the typical performance features often discussed with pickup trucks, we wanted to note that the 2020 Ford F-150 is available in a variety of bold colors, from Blue Jeans and Velocity Blue to Rapid Red, Race Red, and beyond. Many of the 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500’s paint jobs are much more muted, including ones like Satin Steel Metallic, Black, Silver Ice Metallic, Havana Brown Metallic, and a few more.

Ford F-150 vs Chevy Silverado 1500: Engine Power

Ford F-150 vs Chevy Silverado Salisbury NC Last, but certainly not least, we wanted to take a look at engine power. The F-150’s highest-powered engine is its High-Output 3.5L EcoBoost® engine, which is standard on the Raptor and Limited trims. This beast is capable of kicking out 450 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque, numbers the Silverado 1500 can’t beat.

That’s because Chevrolet’s top horsepower-producing engine is its 6.2L EcoTec3 V8 engine with 420 horsepower, while a top torque-producing engine is its Duramax® 3.0L Turbo-Diesel I-6 engine at 460 lb-ft of torque.

Ford’s selectable driving mode system is also more versatile than Chevy’s. It lets you choose between modes like Normal, Tow/Haul, Snow/Wet, Sport, and EcoSelect. Chevy’s driving mode system features six modes, but not EcoSelect.
