Ford Explorer vs Kia Telluride

2020 Ford Explorer

How can drivers from Salisbury, Kannapolis, Lexington, and Mooresville get a better sense of how the Ford Explorer compares to the Kia Telluride? By reading this comparison, of course! Check it out, and then drop us a line at Cloninger Ford in North Carolina if you have any questions. You can also schedule a test drive.

Hundreds of Horsepower

2020 Ford ExplorerThe first thing that really stands out about the Ford Explorer is its power. Take, for example, its 3.0L EcoBoost® V6 engine, which runs its ST and Platinum powertrains. On the 2020 Ford Explorer ST trim, it’ll produce 365 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque; on the 2020 Ford Explorer Platinum trim, it’ll take those numbers up a notch or two by kicking out up to 400 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque. What an engine!

Then there’s the Kia Telluride. Unfortunately, its 3.8L V6 engine can’t keep up. On the 2020 Telluride S trim, it only manages to put out 291 horsepower. Let’s find out what these numbers mean for your towing.

Thousands of Pounds

Towing is a breeze in the 2020 Explorer. If you properly equip it (with the Class III Trailer Tow Package, for example, which comes standard with the 3.0L EcoBoost® V6 engine that we mentioned above), your capabilities can balloon to 5,600 pounds. Plus, you’ll also have Towing and Trailer Sway Control supporting you the entire way, making pulling that camper safer and more convenient than it otherwise would be.

On the other hand, towing just isn’t the same in the 2020 Telluride. That 3.8L V6 engine that we referenced before? It can handle 5,000 pounds. That’s a full 600 pounds less than what you’ll tow in the Ford Explorer.

Millions of Possibilities

2020 Ford Explorer InteriorAll in all, the 2020 Ford Explorer is designed to enable you to do whatever it is that you want to do. Ford Co-Pilot 360TM Technology throws in a suite of driver-assistive safety features to protect you while you’re on the road. SYNC® 3 helps you to stay informed and entertained. And a Tri-Zone Climate Control system will help everybody to get along, even if the driver likes it at 76°, the passenger likes it at 68°, and the kids in the back are right in the middle at 72°. Why compromise when everybody can have it their way?

Unfortunately, the 2020 Kia Telluride base model only comes with “Air Conditioning.” And even its highest, most expensive trim level only throws you a Dual-Zone Automatic Temperature Control system. That’s nice for the two co-pilots in the front, but not so nice for those in the back…especially on road trips.
