Celebrate Earth Day at the Charlotte Museum of History
Earth Day is once again upon us. How will you celebrate? If you want to learn more about environmental conservation, you may want to honor Earth Day at the Charlotte Museum of History.
On Saturday, April 27th, from 12 PM to 4 PM, the museum will be holding a celebration of Earth Day, and you won’t want to miss it! It’s the perfect opportunity to explore the historic role of environmentalism in the Carolina Backcountry and satisfy your sense of wonder. We’re here to tell you all about it!
Put on Your Naturalist Hat
At the Charlotte Museum of History, you can become a naturalist for a day and learn how to bring science to bear on community life. At the center of it all is the museum’s Keeping Watch on Water: City of Creeks exhibit, as well as the banks along the Briar Creek.
Take a tour of the grounds and explore and identify native plants with the help of Dr. Larry Mellichamp, Biology Professor and Director of the Botanical Gardens at UNC Charlotte. He’ll serve as your tour guide as you get down and earthy with it!
A Day at the History Museum
The excitement and wonder of the Charlotte Museum of History extends far beyond Earth Day programs. There’s plenty to experience at this history museum, a nonprofit that views its mission as interpreting and preserving the unique history of Charlotte.
Exhibits give you a window into this city’s storied past. The Backcountry Gallery gives children of all ages a chance to see replicas of Colonial-era dwellings firsthand, while the Charlotte Neighborhoods exhibit is an exploration of the city’s growth up to the 20th century.
There’s even a photography exhibit spanning the last 20 years of Charlotte history! It offers a snapshot of regional musical flavor, and it’s just one more example of the local character this history museum has up its sleeve.
