When it comes to powertrains, the 2020 F-150 and the 2019 F-150 share many of the same components. They use the same engines and offer similar transmissions. However, components in the 2020 model are available in more combinations—and higher-end engines are available at lower trim levels.
The 2020 Ford F-150 has democratized the 10-speed automatic transmission by making it standard with all engines. The 2019 F-150 had used a 6-speed automatic transmission with its base V6 engine, but that transmission is no longer offered in the 2020 model.
With better acceleration at the low and mid ranges of the power band—plus five selectable modes—the 10-speed automatic transmission delivers improved performance and is a welcome presence on all trim levels!
