2018 Ford Escape Review

2018 Ford Escape Small crossovers are tremendously practical for the roads of Salisbury and Kannapolis, and the 2018 Ford Escape is one compact SUV that does many things well. In this car review, our team at Cloninger Ford can tell you more about all the exciting features and capabilities this ride brings to the table.

You’ll learn about performance specs, convenience features, and more as you explore the 2018 Escape in detail. The more you know, the better equipped you’ll be to decide if this is the perfect compact crossover for all your Lexington and Mooresville driving!

2018 Escape: Cargo Space & Storage

In the Escape, you have an incredibly versatile vehicle that can store your most essential cargo with ease. Fold down the 60/40 split rear seatbacks, and you’ll have 68 cubic feet of cargo volume—along with a totally flat load surface for your convenience.

With that much cargo space, you’ll be able to store many of your belongings. If you’re planning a relaxing weekend at Carolina Country Campground, you can easily pack all your camping gear into a space this size. It’ll even fit some furniture items, which can be helpful when you’re moving to a new home.

When your arms are filled with items to load into that cargo bay, the available hands-free power liftgate is a handy feature to have. You won’t have to set your things down and fumble for your keys—simply kick your foot under the rear bumper, and the liftgate will rise for easy access.

Performance Specs: A Trio of Engines

You can choose from three available engines to power your Ford Escape, including a 4-cylinder with intake variable cam design and two turbocharged (EcoBoost® in Ford parlance) 4-cylinder engines. With between 168 and 245 horsepower on tap, these engines give you plenty of options to customize the perfect ride.

The larger 2.0L EcoBoost® 4-cylinder is the best engine for towing. When equipped with the Class II Trailer Tow Package, it can tow up to 3,500 pounds. If you want to hook up a couple of jet skis and bring them out to High Rock Lake, you’ll have the perfect means to do so.

The Escape works intelligently to keep you stable on the road, with features like Curve Control and Torque Vectoring Control. They work in unison to help keep your speed under control as you wind your way down curvy roads, with throttle reduction, anti-lock braking, understeer reduction, and more.

Safety Features in this Crossover SUV

2018 Ford Escape ReviewThe 2018 Escape has been engineered with your safety in mind. After completing a series of NHTSA crash tests, it earned the organization’s highest honor, a 5-Star Overall Safety Rating. The Escape received perfect scores on all frontal and side crash tests, proving this ride’s mettle when it comes to reducing risk of injury in accidents.

To prevent accidents before they happen, the Escape offers several available driver-assist features. They include:

  • Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) with Cross-Traffic Alert. This feature will alert you with an indicator light in your side mirror when a vehicle is detected in your blind spot—and keep an eye out for traffic behind you when you’re backing out of a parking space or driveway.
  • Forward Collision Warning with Brake Support. Too close for comfort to the vehicle ahead? This feature can alert you to potential front-end collisions. If you don’t respond in time, the brakes will pre-charge and increase in sensitivity, so they’re more responsive when you do brake.
